20 Key Prophecy Signs » Beginning of the End for the U.S. in Iraq?

CBS News. BAGHDAD, March 19, 2009 (CBS/ AP) Six years after the U.S. invaded Iraq, the end of America's costly mission is in sight, but the future of this tortured country is much less clear... Violence still continues at levels that most other countries would find alarming... Fighting still rages in Mosul and other areas of the mostly Sunni north... Competition for power and resources among rival religious and ethnic groups is gearing up, even as the U.S. military's role winds down... Both the Sunni and Shiite communities face internal power struggles that are likely to intensify ahead of national elections late this year... "If Iraqi leaders don't reconcile and work together, the situation will deteriorate," veteran Kurdish lawmaker Mahmoud Othman said. "There is no harmony among Iraqi leaders. Their work depends on their mood." Now, the U.S. hopes that it can leave without the country disintegrating into chaos. The Americans hope Iraq will be strong enough to fend off interference by neighboring countries - notably Iran - and protect itself from a resurgent al Qaeda... Against this backdrop is the absence of power-sharing agreements among Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds that the U.S. has long believed were essential to ensuring lasting stability. READ MORE
Prophecy is given to allow the final generation enough time to prepare. The truth of the matter is that the exact details of some of the prophecies will not be understood until they are upon us. One such prophecy is the Revived Roman Empire. The most familiar view is the one that says the Antichrist will arise from ten nations within the European Union. This is known as the Western Perspective. This view teaches that the coming kingdom of the Antichrist will arise from the western leg of the Revived Roman Empire, nations like Italy, Spain, France, England, Germany, Greece etc. There is another, fast-growing opinion, known as the Eastern Perspective. Those who hold to this position claim that the Antichrist will come from the Eastern leg of the Revived Roman Empire represented by a combination of the Babylonian, Persian and Grecian Empires. These are the Islamic nations of the Middle East and Africa, and include Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Iran etc. In light of several different End-Time prophecies, I am seriously leaning toward the latter. Why? The Antichrist is repeatedly called the "Assyrian." The city of Babylon, referred to in Revelation, is located in Iraq. And it seems like Daniel 11:21-24 predicts the Anti-Christ's entry into Iraq (in league with a defeated Iraqi army and a defeated Ruler of a Covenant). Could it be that Daniel's "King of the North" will take Iraq once the U.S. pulls out? Will this be a sign for Christians that we are beginning Daniel's 70th Week? Here are some very good articles to give you something more to think about.
