JERUSALEM – After months of denials the status of Jerusalem is on the table during negotiations, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office today confirmed to WND that a mechanism has been created to deal with the issue of the holy city in U.S.-backed Israeli-Palestinian talks aimed at creating a Palestinian state by the end of the year... Haaretz reported Olmert was planning to include in the negotiations members of the Mideast Quartet – the U.N., U.S., EU and Russia – as well as Jordan, Egypt, the Vatican and possibly the king of Morocco... One U.S. plan for Jerusalem obtained by WND was divided into timed phases, and among other things called for Israel eventually to consider forfeiting parts of the Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site. Joel 3:1-2 (NASB)
1 "For behold, in those days and at that time, When I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will gather all the nations And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land.
The theme of the Book of Joel is the Day of the Lord. This future day of judgment on the Gentile nations is tied to their dividing up the land of Israel and today, this very issue is being set on the prophetic table. CBS News reported this back on October 8, 2007 in this news article: "If I Divide Thee, O Jerusalem..." Before that, in March of 2007, Israel Today reported: "There was never a century like the last one when the nations tried many times to divide God’s Land. Since 1916, there have been 14 partition plans. Now new partition plans are being hatched, to a certain degree with the consent of the Israeli government. More partition plans will follow until the Antichrist comes. Then he will divide Israel among his followers as a reward (Daniel 11:39). Finally, God will step in and judge these nations."
Well, once again, exactly as prophesied, the city of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount are back on the negotiating table. By the way, the prophet Zechariah offers a small caution from God's Word to those considering dividing the land...
Zechariah 1:14-16 (NIV)
14 Then the angel who was speaking to me said, "Proclaim this word: This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I am very jealous for Jerusalem and Zion, 15 but I am very angry with the nations that feel secure. I was only a little angry, but they added to the calamity.' 16 "Therefore, this is what the LORD says: 'I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will be rebuilt. And the measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem,' declares the LORD Almighty.
