DAMASCUS, Syria - Syria's leader said Thursday he offered a proposal for peace with Israel but also refused to break off ties with Hezbolla and militant Palestinians — a key Israeli demand.  President Bashar Assad also said indirect negotiations with Israel were on hold until that country chooses a new prime minister and that direct talks would have to wait until a new U.S. president takes office.  Read More

The last round of the US-backed peace negotiations between Israel Prime Minister Olmert and PNA President Abbas was arranged in Jerusalem on 31 August 2008, Sunday.  The meeting was the first since Olmert announced that he would resign and the last one before he leaves the office. Consequently, Israeli and Palestinian officials on Sunday tried to reach any immediate peace agreement...  Israelis and Palestinians are engaged in peace talks since Camp David Accords (1978) but frequent meetings since then have made little progress on the core issues.   Read More

Donnie's Remarks...

What event initiates Daniel's 70th week?  It is a seven year peace agreement with Israel, unknowingly signed with the Antichrist.  The prophet Daniel predicts and details the prophetic time table for us;

Daniel 9:27 (NIV)
27 He (the Antichrist) will confirm a covenant (a peace agreement) with many (Israel and the surrounding nations) for one 'seven (year period - beginning the seventieth week of Daniel).'  In the middle of the 'seven (year period)' he (the Antichrist) will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing [of the future temple] he (the Antichrist) will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him" (at Armageddon).

Daniel 12:1 (NIV)
1 "At that time (the midpoint of the seventieth week) Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress (the Great Tribulation) such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then.

Speaking of those same days, the Lord Jesus gives us the same warning in His end-times discourse on the Mount of Olives;

Matthew 24:15-22 (NIV)
15 "So when you see standing in the holy place (in the future rebuilt temple) 'the abomination that causes desolation,' (the Antichrist) spoken of through the prophet Daniel--let the reader understand--
21 For then there will be great distress (Great Tribulation), unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again. 22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days (of Antichrist's persecution) will be shortened.

The prophet Isaiah calls this seven year peace agreement that the unbelieving nation of Israel makes with the Antichrist,  "a covenant with death."  (See Isaiah 28:15,18)  Today, we are witnessing a plethora of proposals for peace.  Soon, Israel, (and the majority of the world), is about to be deluded into thinking that this seven year covenant will protect them and give them peace and security.  The covenant with Israel will be broken by the Antichrist when he reveals his true identity at the midpoint of the seventieth week and begins the Great Tribulation against any and all who will not worship 'the beast or his image.'  These are definitely interesting days we are living in!
