Prophecy Sign #18:  Cosmic Signs and Disturbances in the Sky

Sign #18

Cosmic Signs and Disturbances in the Sky

Revelation 6:12-14 (NIV)
12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red,
13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.
14 The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

 Matthew 24:29 (NIV)
29 "Immediately after the distress of those days "'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'

What it looks like

The sixth seal is the cosmic sign marking the end of the Great Tribulation and announcing Jesus' Second Coming. This prophetic sign will be visible to the entire world and will proclaim that the end of the world is imminent. This sign of the end of the age is specifically a sign of hope for Jesus' disciples, to let them know that the Rapture is at hand. The sixth seal consists of at least six unparalleled cosmic disturbances, indicating that the final period of Daniel's 70th week - the Day of the Lord (God's Wrath) - is about to begin. These cosmic disturbances are as follows: (1) Great Earthquake; (2) Solar Eclipse; (3) Red Moon; (4) Stars Fall from the Sky; (5) Sky Splits Apart; and (6) Mountains and Islands are destroyed.

Alarming cosmic disturbances will appear in the sun, moon and stars announcing the return of Jesus Christ. These wonders in the heavens will polarize the inhabitants of the earth, either causing fear to grip one’s heart, or “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

'Land of Milk and Honey' it is

According to the article, Israel is referred to as the Land of Milk and Honey in the Bible 16 times. Milk and Honey is a figurative sign of abundance for the land of Israel.

Deuteronomy 26:8-9 (NIV) "So the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror and with miraculous signs and wonders. 9 He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey;"

Miraculous signs and wonders accompanied Israel's deliverance into her land in Moses day.   Miraculous signs will also mark the End times and Israel's ultimate deliverance in Daniel's 70th week.

Joel 2:28-31 (NIV) 28 'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. 30 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

Avoiding Armageddon

NASA scientists propose spacecraft that would use atomic blasts to deflect asteroids on collision courses with Earth

Someone at NASA has been reading their Bible.

Revelation 8:8-11 (AMP)
8 The second angel blew [his] trumpet, and something resembling a great mountain, blazing with fire, was hurled into the sea. 9 And a third of the sea was turned to blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea perished, and a third of the ships were destroyed.    10 The third angel blew [his] trumpet, and a huge star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it dropped on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water-  11 And the name of the star is Wormwood. A third part of the waters was changed into wormwood, and many people died from using the water, because it had become bitter.

Total lunar eclipse turns Moon red

I was asked, "What is the prophetic significance of the moon "turning to blood" tonight (2.20.08) when we had a total eclipse and the moon turned red? The prophetic significance of this sign would be the same as any other major earthquake, or any other major eclipse that could occur today... not so significant.  It's the timing and the context of the moon turning to blood that is prophetically significant.  Once we see a seven year covenant signed, the temple rebuilt, sacrifices re-instated, and the Antichrist proclaiming himself God in the temple, we will know with certainty that we are living in Daniel's 70th week, the final seven years before Jesus' return.  It is during this period of time all the prophetic signs in the heavens will take on "prophetic sign" status.  In 2 Thessalonians 2:5, Paul explains that the Antichrist has to appear before the return of Christ.  Once we see that unmistakable prophetic sign, we will know that there is 3 ½ years before Jesus returns to set up His kingdom.  In this period of time, the second half of Daniel's 70th week, the church saints will witness severe persecution in the Great Tribulation until we are raptured.  In his book on Daniel, Rodney Stortz explains it like this; "Both Jesus and Paul likened Christ's return to the experience of a pregnant woman.  A pregnant woman knows she is in the ninth month and will deliver any day, but she does not know "the day or the hour" of the child's birth.  So it will be in the last days, Christians who know the prophecies will know approximately when Christ will return, even though they do not know the exact day or hour."  So, sometime after the Antichrist proclaims himself God - within the second 3 ½ years of Daniel's 70th week - the signs you are asking about will occur.  They will occur when the seven trumpet judgments and the seven bowl judgments are poured out upon the earth.  The next lunar eclipse will not be seen until December 2010... and it could have great prophetic significance!

Cosmic signs have played a major role in the past, and are prophesied to play a major role in the future.

Blood moon eclipses: 2nd Coming in 2015?

Jesus is coming again.  That fact is certain.  It is the chronology of His Second Coming that is uncertain.  But the Lord's coming is not signless.  Jesus tells us we are to stay awake, watching for specific signs that will indicate His Coming is near.  Some of the signs we are to look for have already occurred.  For example, the restoration of Israel to her land, the occupation of the city of Jerusalem by the nation Israel and global satellite communications, are all signs indicating His return is near.  The purpose of this website is to watch for specific prophetic signs that identify and confirm if we are living in the last days.  A future sign that we are to be looking for is cosmic signs and disturbances in the sky that will immediately precede the day of the Lord.

Joel 2:30-31 (NIV)
30 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

Revelation 6:12-14 (NIV)

This news article (Interview with Mark Biltz on - Solar and Lunar Eclipses in 2014/15) is quite fascinating for a couple of reasons;  First, I believe that Christ's Second Coming will occur in precise relation to certain Jewish fall feasts (Yom Kippur, the feast of Tabernacles and Hanukkah), just as His crucifixion occurred in precise relation to the Passover feast.  Second, "the last time that four blood red moons occurred together was in 1967 and 1968 tied to Jerusalem being recaptured by Israel.  Even before 1967, the next time that you had four blood red moons was right after Israel became a nation in 1948..."  If that isn't a divine road sign in the heavens, I don't know what is!  Lastly is the continued Middle East Peace Treaty that many world leaders, including President Bush, are pushing to get signed by the end of this year, 2008.  This could all be a coincidence, but I don't think so.  Remember, Jesus said there would be signs pointing to His return.  Keep watching everyone!

1 Thessalonians 5:4-6 (NIV)
4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.
5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.

Meteor ranks among the top displays of the decade, expert says

In the News...  Associated Press.  Updated 6:35 p.m. CT, Mon., Nov. 24, 2008

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - Scientists say they hope to find remnants of a meteor that brilliantly lit up the sky before falling to earth in Western Canada.  University of Calgary planetary scientist Alan Hildebrand called it one of the largest meteors visible in the country in the last decade.  Widely broadcast video images showed what appeared to be a speeding fireball Thursday night over Saskatoon that became larger and brighter before disappearing as it neared the ground.  Read More

Donnie's Remarks...  This Thanksgiving an unexpected meteor turned the Canadian night into day.  A single meteor, as large as a tractor trailer, as bright as a billion-watt light bulb, lit the sky for a brief second over Western Canada.  This spectacular sight was recorded by hundreds and made headlines across the world.  Now imagine that it's you, but this time you witness, not one, but thousands of catastrophic meteors plunging to earth, lighting up the entire sky, shaking the earth to its core.  And this time, it will be witnessed by every individual alive and will be the most anticipated headline in history.  One of these days it's going to happen, and it could very well occur in our lifetime.  This cosmic sign in the heavens is but one of the many prophecy signs that God the Father will commission to announce the return of His son, Jesus.  I think we need to look at the sighting in Canada as a preview, a trailer, if you will, of the soon-to-be-released full length motion picture.

They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.

Unseen dark comets 'could pose deadly threat to earth'

Phew! Asteroid's passing was a cosmic near-miss

'Dark' comets happen when the water on their surface has evaporated, causing them to reflect less light 'Dark' Comets Could Hit Earth Without Warning

In the News...

Telegraph.co.uk.  By Kate Devlin.  12 Feb 2009

Hazardous comets and asteroids are tracked by various space agencies, but British-based astronomers say there are many dangerous ones still going undetected, New Scientist magazine reported.  Previous research suggests comets nudge in the Earth's direction when the solar system periodically passes through the galactic plane.  These comets appear to coincide with the dates of ancient impact craters found on Earth — suggesting they were caused by comets and not asteroids.  "There is a case to be made that dark, dormant comets are a significant but largely unseen hazard," said Bill Napier at Cardiff University.  Napier and David Asher, at Armagh Observatory, say dark comets may still be in the solar system, and could come near Earth.  Dark comets happen when a comet's reflective water ice evaporates away, and leaves behind an organic crust.  Since the water's gone, they don't reflect light, making it hard for astronomers to see them until they're right on top of us.  Read More
