CHARACTERISTICS & FEATURES OF THE MILLENNIUM

Donnie's Teaching Notes

A NEW HEAVENS AND A NEW EARTH

Rev. 21:1  Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

2 Peter 3:10-13 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.   [11] Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives [12] as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. [13] But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

Isaiah 65:17  "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth.   The former things will not be Remembered,  nor will they come to mind.

Isaiah 66:22-23 "As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," declares the Lord, "so will your name and descendants endure. [23] From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me," says the Lord.

NEW HEAVENLY JERUSALEM WILL BE THE HOME OF BOTH THE O.T. AND N.T. RESURRECTED SAINTS (THE SAINTS OF THE CHURCH AND ISRAEL)

Rev. 21:2  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

Rev. 21:9-10 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." [10] And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

Isaiah 65:18  But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create,  for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy.

Rev. 21:3    And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

John 14:2-3  In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Hebrews 12:22-23  But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, [23] to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,

JESUS WILL RULE OVER THE EARTH FROM HIS THRONE.

THE THRONE OF GOD WILL BE IN THE MILLENNIAL TEMPLE, SITTING ON MOUNT ZION.  APPARENTLY, THE TEMPLE WILL CONNECT HEAVENLY JERUSALEM AND EARTHLY JERUSALEM.

Luke 1:30-33 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. [31] You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. [32] He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, [33] and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

Rev. 21:3  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

Rev. 21:5 He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

Rev. 22:3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.

Rev. 21:22   I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

Isaiah 2:2-3  In the last days the mountain of the Lord's temple will be established as chief among the mountains;   it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.  [3] Many peoples will come and say,  "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,  to the house of the God of Jacob.  He will teach us his ways,  so that we may walk in his paths."  The law will go out from Zion,  the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 25:6  On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine--  the best of meats and the finest of wines.

Psalm 48:1-2  Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.      [2] It is beautiful in its loftiness,  the joy of the whole earth.  Like the utmost heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion,  the city of the Great King.

Ezekiel 43:6-10   While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple. [7] He said: "Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The house of Israel will never again defile my holy name--neither they nor their kings--by their prostitution and the lifeless idols of their kings at their high places. [8] When they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by their detestable practices. So I destroyed them in my anger. [9] Now let them put away from me their prostitution and the lifeless idols of their kings, and I will live among them forever.   [10] "Son of man, describe the temple to the people of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their sins. Let them consider the plan,

THE 12 APOSTLES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE NEW JERUSALEM

Matthew 19:27-28 Peter answered him, "We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?"   [28] Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Rev. 21:12-14  It (The Holy City Jerusalem) had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. [13] There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. [14] The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

LIVING WATER, AS CLEAR AS CRYSTAL, WILL FLOW FROM GOD’S THRONE

Rev. 22:1-2  Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb [2] down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

Psalm 72:8 He will rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Zech. 14:8-9  On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in winter.  [9] The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.

Joel 3:18  "In that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk; all the ravines of Judah will run with water.  A fountain will flow out of the Lord's house and will water the valley of acacias.

Ezekiel 47:1-12  The man brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. [2] He then brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and the water was flowing from the south side. [3] As the man went eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a thousand cubits and then led me through water that was ankle-deep. [4] He measured off another thousand cubits and led me through water that was knee-deep. He measured off another thousand and led me through water that was up to the waist. [5] He measured off another thousand, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough to swim in--a river that no one could cross. [6] He asked me, "Son of man, do you see this?"  Then he led me back to the bank of the river. [7] When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. [8] He said to me, "This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the Sea. When it empties into the Sea, the water there becomes fresh. [9] Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. [10] Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds--like the fish of the Great Sea. [11] But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt. [12] Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing."

THE EARTH WILL ONCE AGAIN BE LIKE THE GARDEN OF EDEN.  THE ANIMAL KINGDOM WILL BE TAME AND THE EARTH WILL BE FULL OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD.  LIFE SPANS OF THOSE WHO HAVE EARTHLY BODIES, WILL INCREASE.

Rev. 22:3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.

Isaiah 11:6-11 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.  [7] The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.  [8] The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.  [9] They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

Isaiah 65:20-25  "Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years;  he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth;  he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed.  [21] They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.  [22] No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat.  For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands.  [23] They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune;  for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them.  [24] Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.  [25] The wolf and the lamb will feed together,  and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food.  They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,"  says the Lord.

THERE WILL BE NO NEED OF THE SUN OR THE MOON TO GIVE LIGHT.  THE GLORY OF GOD WILL SHINE AND ILLUMINATE THE EARTH.

Rev. 21:11  It (The Holy City Jerusalem) shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.

Rev. 21:23  The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

Rev. 22:4-5  They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. [5] There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

Isaiah 30:26  The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the Lord binds up the bruises of his people and heals the wounds he inflicted.

Zech. 14:6-7  On that day there will be no light, no cold or frost. [7] It will be a unique day, without daytime or nighttime--a day known to the Lord. When evening comes, there will be light.

THERE WILL BE NO MORE DEATH, CRYING, MOURNING AND PAIN

Rev. 21:4  He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

Isaiah 25:7-8 On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations;  [8] he will swallow up death forever.  The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.   The Lord has spoken.

Isaiah 65:19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.

KING DAVID WILL BE GIVEN POLITICAL RULE OVER THE NATION OF ISRAEL.  APPARENTLY A PALACE WILL BE BUILT AND HE WILL REIGN FROM THE EARTHLY JERUSALEM.

2 Samuel 7:12-16  When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. [13] He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. [14] I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men. [15] But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. [16] Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.' "

Jeremiah 30:9 Instead, they will serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.  Jeremiah 30:18  "This is what the Lord says:  " 'I will restore the fortunes of Jacob's tents and have compassion on his dwellings; the city will be rebuilt on her ruins, and the palace will stand in its proper place.

Ezekiel 34:23-24 I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. [24] I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken.

Ezekiel 37:24-28   " 'My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. [25] They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever. [26] I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever. [27] My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people. [28] Then the nations will know that I the Lord make Israel holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever.' "

THERE WILL BE NO MORE WAR

Isaiah 2:4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples.  They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.  Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.

THE NEW EARTH WILL BE POPULATED BY THE GENTILE NATIONS WHO SURVIVED THE DAY OF THE LORD.  THE NATIONS WILL SERVE GOD AND RECOGNIZE THE NATION ISRAEL AS HIS CHOSEN NATION.

Rev. 21:24-26 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. [25] On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. [26] The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.

Isaiah 2:3  And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,  To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways, And that we may walk in His paths."  For the law will go forth from Zion, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 11:10-12  In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious. [11] In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.   [12] He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel;   he will assemble the scattered people of Judah  from the four quarters of the earth.

Isaiah 49:22-23  This is what the Sovereign Lord says:   "See, I will beckon to the Gentiles, I will lift up my banner to the peoples;  they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders.      [23] Kings will be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow down before you with their faces to the ground; they will lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed."

Isaiah 66:19-23  "I will set a sign among them, and I will send some of those who survive to the nations--to Tarshish, to the Libyans and Lydians (famous as archers), to Tubal and Greece, and to the distant islands that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will proclaim my glory among the nations. [20] And they will bring all your brothers, from all the nations, to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord--on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels," says the Lord. "They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels. [21] And I will select some of them also to be priests and Levites," says the Lord. [22] "As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," declares the Lord, "so will your name and descendants endure. [23] From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me," says the Lord.

Micah 7:16-20 Nations will see and be ashamed, deprived of all their power.  They will lay their hands on their mouths and their ears will become deaf.  [17] They will lick dust like a snake,  like creatures that crawl on the ground.   They will come trembling out of their dens; they will turn in fear to the Lord our God and will be afraid of you.  [18] Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.  [19] You will again have compassion on us;  you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.  [20] You will be true to Jacob, and show mercy to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our fathers in days long ago.

THIS KINGDOM WILL ENDURE FOREVER

Daniel 2:44   "In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.

Daniel 7:27  Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be handed over to the saints, the people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.'
